Go For Gold(en Milk Latté)
Have you jumped on the turmeric train yet?
People are going crazy for this superfood. The spice has been a staple in India for centuries and now the rest of the world is catching up. Not only is turmeric a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, it also tastes delicious and has the most amazing color.
The main active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin, this is the compound that contains all the magic. Unfortunately, the content of curcumin in turmeric is pretty low (about 3%). So you’d either need to drink a bunch of these lattes, eat a curry dish with turmeric every night, or you could take a supplement with a higher dosage to really reap the benefits.
Turmeric is a great companion in the fight against immuun diseases, inflammatory matters and common annoyances like stomach bloating, fatigue, common colds, head aches and menstrual problems. Again, it’s not going to magically cure you… but every little bit helps, right?! Also, if you have a serious coffee addiction like I do, this can be a great substitute!
Here’s a recipe I tried out at my mom’s house the other day:
-1 Cup of plant based milk (personally I like coconut milk, but today we used a mix of almond and coconut milk)
-1 tsp turmeric powder
-1 tsp cinnamon powder
-1 tsp ginger powder
-1 tsp honey
-a pinch of pepper
Mix all the ingredients in a small saucepan, let it simmer for about 10 minutes, and voila!
The great thing about this drink is that it’s completely up to you how to make it. If you like it a little sweeter, you can add honey or maple syrup. Want it smoother, maybe a spoon of coconut oil will fix it. Is it too thick to your liking? Add some water! (You know what, this counts for every single recipe in the world! YOU DO YOU ha)
So what do you think, are you gonna give it a try? Or are you already an avid golden milk drinker, and if so - how do you make it your own?
